Vampire Diaries Spoilers for Season 3, Episode 21, “Before Sunset”: Who’s Having an Existential Crisis?

The question of free will is an interesting one in The Vampire Diariesuniverse these days, what with Alaric (Matt Davis) being coached by a witch into murdering vampires. That’s definitely a sticky situation — would the vampire hunter’s dark side have manifested itself in the same way if Esther (Alice Evans) hadn’t been waiting on the other side? — but there’s another character who feels coerced as well.
Julie Plec recently spoke with reporters, and TV Guide reports that the executive producer dropped some hints about how Bonnie (Kat Graham) will fare in the last couple episodes of the season. First of all, it seems like newly vamped Alaric’s bite wasn’t fatal (which we knew from the promo photos anyway). But the witch doesn’t like her “sisters” messing with her mind — and her dreams. "She was very clearly under some sort of witchy influence," Plec said. "Bonnie's issue now is, 'What the hell? I've got vampires telling me what to do, [and] now I have the witches telling me what to do. Where's my free will? Where's my choice?' That's going to influence her character moving forward." Maybe Bonnie needs some magical herbs of her own — not that kind. The kind that stop witches from invading your brain.
Abby (Persia White), Bonnie’s mother, will make a reappearance in Season 3, Episode 21, “Before Sunset” to help her daughter with a spell. Hopefully it has something to do with un-breaking Alaric, but apparently Bon-Bon and Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) put themselves at risk performing the ritual.
Considering the crisis she’s going through, maybe it’s time for Bonnie to take another trip to her visit her father’s boring relatives.
